All Airlines now get 25% of their revenue from fees.

All Airlines now get 25% of their revenue from fees.
The Largest fee is a charge of up to $200 to change or cancel a ticket.
Airlines sell many cheap fares knowing that they will make money on changes. In some cases, the change fee is more than the price of the ticket.
Until the US Government enforces laws, nothing will get done.
Can any other industry charge you $200 for changing your dates? If you can't fly why cant you gift it or resell it? Security? Everyone has to prove their identity so that no longer is a valid answer.
It appears that this sector has special protections that no other industry enjoys and until congress and state legislators demand change we will continue to pay the price.
An example for thought.
Imagine Costco changing their pricing model to charge you based on quantity in stock and customer demand. You walk up to the counter with a bottle of Windex and it rings up as $100.00 and the words LAST BOTTLE.
Nobody can get away with this except the airlines.

United 1 Year Baggage $349

Luggage was always FREE. Airlines used to allow 2 bags free with every ticket purchased on both domestic and international flights. After all, if you are traveling on vacation or business you do need clothing and some personal items to enjoy your stay.

Can you go on vacation in the USA or travel to London for 10 days with a carry-on only and have enough clothing, camera etc to get you through comfortably?

NO! and the airline know this. International luggage when from 70Lbs to 50Lbs a bage and from 2 bags to 1 bag. They repackaged tickets as travel ticket, Luggage Fees and now 9-11 airport taxes.

United is offering an annual luggage subscription for $349. It sounds similar to Amazon Prime. Pay United $349 today and for the next year you and those traveling with you get two pieces of luggage FREE. Not quite free since you did pay for it.

Maybe when all else fails, airline we have new campaigns that read...

United Airlines will permit one bag plus one personal item, per customer to be carried on the aircraft at no charge. The maximum combined linear measurement (length + width + height) of carry-on bags must not exceed 14 inches x 9 inches x 22 inches (23 x 35 x 56 cm) or 45 linear inches (114 cm).
Please note: Any item in excess of carry-on baggage size or allowance requirements will be checked to your final destination and may be subject to applicable checked baggage fees.

Checked baggage
In general, United will accept up to two pieces of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 50 pounds (23 kg) per bag and a maximum combined linear measurement of 62 inches (157 cm) per bag in exchange for the applicable service fees set forth below. Additional checked bags or any bags that exceed these allowable weights and dimensions are subject to additional fees. Linear measurement of a bag is equal to the length + width + height of the bag added together. If your baggage needs require you to check additional baggage, or your baggage exceeds the listed size and weight

United Airlines realizes that at times it may be necessary to travel with an item that exceeds the size or weight limitations or is in excess of the baggage allowance. Additional charges apply to this type of baggage.
How a bag is measured by length, width and height.
Any piece over the baggage allowance or baggage that exceeds the size and/or weight limitations will be subject to additional charges. Excess baggage is transported on a space-available basis and will be carried subject to load capacities of the aircraft. Other restrictions may apply.

Baggage in excess of 100 pounds (45 kilograms) or 115 linear inches (292 cm)(total length + width + height) will not be accepted as checked baggage. United will not accept more than 4 bags per customer that are overweight (more than 50 pounds), oversize (more than 62 linear inches) or a combination of overweight and oversize.
Assistive devices, including electric wheelchairs weighing more than 100 pounds (45 kilograms), will continue to be accepted at no charge.

How a bag is measured

A bag will be weighed and measured to ensure that it meets the dimensional requirements for shipping. Baggage is measured by length + width + height. The dimensions of each measurement are added together to compose the total number of linear inches/centimeters. The bag's thickest or widest part of the length, width and height will be measured.

Bag fees apply at any point where bags are checked. For a trip that includes one or more connections, bags will be checked to your final destination, and the fee for checking a bag from your origin to your destination will apply. For a trip that includes a voluntary stopover, your bags will be checked to your stopover point, where you will collect your bags. When you resume travel, you may check your bags again, subject to applicable fees from the new point of check-in to the destination.
Fees apply for certain economy class fares between the destinations indicated below based on dates of purchase and travel. Fee amounts are in U.S. dollars (USD).
Note: Baggage fees shown below apply for travel purchased on or after July 15, 2011, for travel on or after August 15, 2011, unless noted otherwise. Different fees may apply depending on the date your travel was purchased. Please see below for all other ticketing and travel dates.
